Booked 11 Opens With a Crowd!

On Saturday, March 1st, BAR held its opening reception for Booked 11.  Everyone enjoyed looking at the books created by the members.  There were 65 works, by 37 artists.  So much to see!

The variety in form was wonderfully intriguing - from the shape one typically thinks of for a book, to books which belong on the wall, to one which lights a room, to others which are really rather sculptures, to one which is interactive, to...  I think you get the picture!

And of course there was food to help celebrate!

Congratulations to BAR for putting on a great show - the 11th year for this annual show.  Also, a big "Thank you" to Liz Demaree for chairing the committee, and to the BAR members who helped do the work.

ART TALK: CRAFT POWER with Miriam Schaer, 2014

Miriam Schaer presenting CRAFT POWER: Enhancing Women's Rights Through the Practice of Traditional Arts

Karen McDermott shares the photos and this:
Yesterday Miriam Schaer joined us for ART TALK.  We started with lunch, and because many of you asked, it was provided by Claudia’s Creative Catering in Maplewood. Wonderful. We than settled down to hear Mimi’s talk of her experiences working with groups of women in the Republic of Georgia. Mimi, it was informative, certainly enlightening , and it was a real pleasure to have you in our midst again.
Enjoy the photos everyone!

November Is a 2 For 2 Swap!

Cynthia Weiss, Paula Ehrich & Mary Ann Russo draw their numbers.

Bring a book in a brown paper lunch bag, and go home with one from a fellow member!  That's what BAR members did at the November meeting.  As you put your bag on the table, you pull a number for your turn to choose.  Members could swap for up to two books.

The table is so plain, yet the surprises those bags hold...

Shari Seltzer talks about the book she made for the Swap.

Suzie Tuchman shares a book she pulled from the table.

Members hear about the books from the makers, as well as the receivers.

Cynthia Weiss & Ronni Pressman hold up Pocket Book, made by Suzie Tuchman.

The next 2 For 2 Swap is held at BAR's May meeting.  Won't you participate?
