Enhancing Women’s Rights Through the Practice of Traditional Arts

Artist and educator Miriam Schaer will describe her unique craft-based project in the Republic of Georgia, where she traveled last year with two colleagues from Columbia College Chicago. Working in Georgia’s agricultural Kakheti region, the trio brought together groups of women for a series of workshops in artists’ books and personal storytelling using the medium of handmade felt, an indigenous Georgian craft.
